2025 AFLW Rising Stars
Round 1 - Lucia Painter - West Coast Eagles
Lucia Painter burst onto the AFLW scene with three scintillating goals within eight minutes in her debut game. The Bendigo product was selected by West Coast with pick no.7 in the 2024 Telstra AFLW Draft. An animal lover with big plans to be a criminal prosecutor, Painter was a key part of the Eagles’ rise along with housemate and fellow 2025 Telstra Rising Star nominee Jess Rentsch.
Round 2 - Zippy Fish - Sydney Swans
Zippy by name, zippy by nature, Fish took to the AFLW like, well, a fish to water. Averaging 21.2 disposals, 3.3 tackles and 5.9 intercept possessions per game, Fish was cool, calm and collected under pressure, and played every game in 2025. The East Fremantle product roadtripped across to Sydney from Western Australia with her dad after being drafted by the Swans with pick no.5 in the 2024 Telstra AFLW Draft.
Round 3 - Havana Harris - Gold Coast SUNS
Considered to be somewhat of an AFLW ‘unicorn’, Havana Harris can play as a forward, midfielder or ruck. Standing at 182cm, Harris is known for her vertical leap and explosive speed, and is set to terrorise opposition players for years to come. A Gold Coast Academy player, Harris joined the Suns with pick no.2 at the 2024 Telstra AFLW Draft.
Round 4 - Sophie McKay - Carlton
A famous Carlton surname, another McKay joined the Blues when father-daughter selection Sophie was drafted with pick no.17 in the 2024 NAB AFLW Draft. Joining sister Abbie for the latter’s first year as captain, McKay caught the eye with her red hair, presence up forward and exuberent celebrations. Her debut season was full of highlights, making the younger McKay not only a star of the future, but a star of the present.
Round 5 - Ash Centra - Collingwood
The footy world got a taste of Ash Centra’s sublime skills before she’d even played a game, with her crafty ball-bouncing abilities making headlines as she warmed up before her debut match. Drafted with the prized no.1 pick in the 2024 Telstra AFLW Draft, Centra averaged 14 disposals, 2.9 tackles and 3.3 marks per game in 2025.
Round 6 - Poppy Scholz - Carlton
Forward or back, Poppy Scholz can make an impact at either end of the ground with her athleticism and ability to read the play. The younger sister of 2024 Telstra Rising Star winner Matilda, Scholz made a name for herself in 2025 as one of Carlton’s most dependable players. Drafted with pick no.6 in the 2024 Telstra AFLW Draft, Scholz stands at 179cm and kicked 13 goals in 2025.
Round 7 - Brooke Boileau - Adelaide
After being drafted with pick no.22 in the 2023 AFLW Draft, Brooke Boileau became a mainstay of Adelaide’s star-studded line-up in 2025. A South Australian native, Boileau averaged 11.9 disposals, 4.7 tackles and 2.4 clearances in 2025, and made her finals debut. A tough midfielder who excels in the contest, Boileau brings grit and pressure to the Crows.
Round 8 - Kaitlyn Srhoj - GIANTS
A hard-running, ball-winning midfielder, Kaitlyn Srhoj nabbed a second Telstra Rising Star nomination in 2025 after previously getting the nod in 2024. Hailing from Western Australia, Srhoj was selected by Greater Western Sydney with pick no.3 in the 2023 AFLW Draft and made an immediate impact. Srhoj averaged 18.3 disposals and 4.8 tackles in 2025.
Round 9 - Jess Rentsch - West Coast Eagles
One of the game’s toughest tacklers, Jess Rentsch became an integral part of West Coast’s rise in 2025. One half of a dynamic duo with housemate and fellow 2025 Telstra Rising Star nominee Lucia Painter, Rentsch was drafted with pick no.2 in the 2023 AFLW Draft. Hailing from Penshurst in country Victoria, Rentsch credits growing up playing footy with her two brothers for her tenacious attack on the ball.
Round 10 - Emma McDonald - Western Bulldogs
One of the Western Bulldogs’ next generation of young guns, Emma McDonald knows her way around the goals. Standing at 192cm, McDonald’s atheticism and aerial ability have seen her become the Bulldogs’ key focal point in just her first season of AFLW. Drafted with pick no.8 in the 2024 Telstra AFLW Draft, expect to see McDonald leaping at the footy and taking great grabs for years to come.
Round 11 - India Rasheed - Adelaide
The daughter of tennis great Roger, Rasheed grew up a mad Port Adelaide supporter but that all changed the minute she was drafted to the Crows with pick no.13 in the 2025 Telstra AFLW Draft. Rasheed’s footy smarts and silky skills are impressive for a first-year player, with the young forward kicking two goals in a memorable first finals performance.
Round 12 - Sarah Poustie - Western Bulldogs
She may wear a helmet on-field, but there’s no cap on Sarah Poustie’s potential. After setting the all-time AFLW draft combine 2km time trial record of 7:02, Poustie was snapped up by the Western Bulldogs with pick no.25 in the 2024 Telstra AFLW Draft. A tackling machine, Poustie runs as hard as she tackles and flourished more and more each week in 2025.
Rising Star Winner - Zippy Fish - Sydney Swans
With the best name in football, Zippy Fish is also the best young player in the game. The Western Australian was crowned the 2025 Telstra AFLW Rising Star after a prolific and ultra-consistent season that saw her receive the maximum votes from the 10-person voting panel. Supremely skilled and with ball-winning ability to boot, Fish equalled the all-time record for most disposals on debut for her 26-touch game in round one.
2025 AFLW Best & Fairest Winner
2025 AFLW Best & Fairest Winner - Ash Riddell - North Melbourne
Not content with merely equalling the all-time AFLW disposal record in 2025 with 43 in round two, Ash Riddell broke it with 44 in round six, and then broke it again with 45 in round eight. A bona fide ball-magnet, Riddell also averaged 5.1 clearances in 2025 as part of North Melbourne’s dominant season. Overlooked in two drafts, Riddell finally got her big break in 2018 when North Melbourne was building its list ahead of entering the AFLW competition in 2019. A testament to hard work and never giving up, Riddell’s rise to being crowned the competition’s best will go down in history.
